Handle with care! 2006

500 limestones stamped coverd with PVC. 170x200cm

Specifically for this show I asked the local stone-cutter to produce over 500 stones of 5x6x9cm. Each one is numbered as in the printmaking process, wrapped in thick clear plastic and constructed into a small mountain, which visitors to the exhibition were free to take individual pieces away with them.

By taking the stone from its original status and presenting it in a new setting I have tried to bring to the attention not only the significance of the stone rich its symbolic meaning, but to invite to reconfigure their relation and understanding in the new situation that the people now finds itself in; simultaneously highlighting a concern for the surrounding environment and the delicate relationship between the Kurdish people and the intensive and chaotic reconstruction work now underway.
